The Power of Unconscious Mind
The substance and quality of our existence is entirely an expression of
unconscious mind. What we experience and how we feel about it is created
out of a set of beliefs held — not at the level of conscious mind
— but in a deeper part of our being, one that cannot be influenced
by changing our thinking, wishing, hoping, desiring a different experience,
or even the application will power. Chronic compulsions like procrastination,
low self-esteem, overspending, debt, compulsive worry, destructive relationships,
workaholism, addictions, and so many others all have their origins in
unconscious mind.
Our inability to directly affect the unconscious realm of human experience is the root cause for most of the frustration and dissatisfaction we experience in life.
Protecting Us From Danger
The
unconscious mind works much like the eye's retina to hold the impression
of what it perceives. Chief among its duties is protecting us from danger.
Where an event in our life either causes us harm or threatens to cause
us harm, unconscious mind records the danger to keep us from experiencing
similar danger in the future. Since most of us grow up in dysfunctional
and chaotic households, what should be a loving, nurturing environment
isn't. The toxic atmosphere of fear and distrust gets imprinted onto the
substance of unconscious mind and forms the bedrock of our beliefs systems.
We internalize the experience that the world isn't a safe place, and that
trust and dependence are dangerous.
